Pea


 Both the edible and the garden Pea varieties are structurally the same and they belong to the palnt family Fabaceae or Papilionaceae. It is an annual, which grows to a height of 1-2 metres. The compound leaves have leaflets that are entire, 3-4 cm. long and 2-3 cm broad. The flowers are generally white or cream coloured. However, in the garden varieties, owing to hybridization, many colours have been developed. The seeds are globular, smooth or wrinkled and 6-8 mm. in diameter.

MEDICINAL USE:

* Purifies the blood.
* Works as a laxative.
* Improves the appetite although it may cause flatulence in some people.
* Bronchitis.
* Controls biliousness or the excessive secretion of bile.
* Wounds and bruises.

HOW TO USE:

* The tender pods along with the seeds or only the seeds are boiled and eaten to take care of the first 5 conditions listed under Medicinal use.

* The dry seeds are powdered and applied over wounds and bruises for quick healing.

The tender pods and seeds.



DOSE:

As recommended above.

Normal Dosage For:

Adults: 4 or 5 cups a day.
Aged 6 to 9 years: 2 cups a day
Aged 2 to 5 years: 1 cup a day
1 to 2 years: 1/2 cup a day
Below 1 year: 1/4 or less cup a day

A Useful Table for Quick Measurements:
1 tbsp = 5 grams (green herb)
1 dessertspoon = 2 grams (dry herb)
1 teaspoon = 25 drops
1 cup = 16 tbsp


1 litre = 7 or 8 cups
