Indian Heliotrope

The Indian Heliotrope belonging to the plant family Boraginaceae is a sweet-scented plant. It is called Heliotrope because the flowers follow the course of the sun. It grows from 15 to 50 cm. in height. The leaves are opposite, alternate, ovate-oblong, and hairy. The flowers are all on one side of the spike terminals and the lower flowers open first. The fruit is composed of two ovoid nutlets. It grows in wastelands throughout the tropics.

MEDICINAL USE:
*Scabies.
*Ulcers and cancer.
*Conjunctivitis.
*Cough and asthma.

HOW TO USE:
*The decoction of the leaves is recommended for scabies.
*The decoction of the plant is very efficient for various ulcers and internal sores which tend to be
  transformed into cancers.
*The fresh juice of the leaves, in droops, is helpful for conjunctivitis.
*The infusion of the plant is recommended for cough and asthma.


PARTS USED:
*The whole plant.

DOSE:
As recommended above.

Normal Dosage For:

Adults: 4 or 5 cups a day.
Aged 6 to 9 years: 2 cups a day
Aged 2 to 5 years: 1 cup a day
1 to 2 years: 1/2 cup a day
Below 1 year: 1/4 or less cup a day

A Useful Table for Quick Measurements:
1 tbsp = 5 grams (green herb)
1 dessertspoon = 2 grams (dry herb)
1 teaspoon = 25 drops
1 cup = 16 tbsp

1 litre = 7 or 8 cups
