Sweet Potato

The Sweet Potato is a well-known prostate annual herb that is smooth and shiny. It belongs to the plant family Convolvulaceae. It is cultivated for its tubers that are red, white or yellow in colour. The leaves are ovate-cordate and more or less lobed. When fully mature it puts forth many purple, funnel-shaped flowers arranged on long stalks. The seeds are smooth and shiny.

MEDICINAL USE:
*Strangury or slow and painful discharge of urine caused by muscular spasms.
*Diarrhoea.
*Works as a laxative.
*Whitlow, which is a painful abscess on the side of the nail at the end of a finger or a toe.

HOW TO USE:
*The boiled or roasted tuberous roots are eaten to take care of strangury and diarrhoea, and as a
  laxative.
*The leaves are ground with a pinch of salt and applied to whitlow.

PARTS USED:
*The leaves and the tuberous roots.

DOSE:
As recommended above.

Normal Dosage For:

Adults: 4 or 5 cups a day.
Aged 6 to 9 years: 2 cups a day
Aged 2 to 5 years: 1 cup a day
1 to 2 years: 1/2 cup a day
Below 1 year: 1/4 or less cup a day

A Useful Table for Quick Measurements:
1 tbsp = 5 grams (green herb)
1 dessertspoon = 2 grams (dry herb)
1 teaspoon = 25 drops
1 cup = 16 tbsp

1 litre = 7 or 8 cups
