Nutmeg

Nutmeg belongs to the plant family Myristicaceae. Tree is about seven meters high with a greyish-brown or black smooth bark. The branches spread in whorls. The leaves are petioled, glabarous, alternate and aromatic. The flowers are small, in axillary raemes. The fruit is a globous drupe with a succulent pericarp and a wrinkled mace around the seed. The seed or kernel is firm, fleshy, and abounding in oil. The kernel is the nutmeg, which is used commercially and has medicinal properties.
       
MEDICINAL USE:
*Diarrhoea, expelling gas from stomach, nausea and vomiting.
*Stomachache.
*Leucorrhoea.
*Fevers and chills.
*piles.
*Pimplrs.

HOW TO USE:
*The decoction of the Nutmeg is use for diarrhoea, flatulence, nausea and vomiting.
*The warm oil of the nutmeg is rubbed over the stomach to relieved pain.
*Roasted nutmeg paste is applied locally to take care of leucorrhoea, a whitish discharge from the
  uterine cavity or vagina.
*Charred Nutmeg is an excellent remedy for fevers and chills and the dose is generally half to one
  gram, taken twice a day.
*Grated nutmeg mixed with vaseline is applied externally to cure piles.
*To get rid of pimples, grind equal quantities of nutmeg, black pepper (piper nigrum) and
  sandalwood (Santalum alum)and apply on the affected parts frequently.

PART USED:
*The nuts and oil extracted from it.

DOSE:
*As recommended above. For decoction use 1 or 2 grams in water. Use twice or three a day.

CAUTION:
*Nutmeg taken in large doses is narcotic.
