Walnut

The Walnut tree belongs to the plant family Juglandaceae. It is a hardy, deciduous, slow growing, large tree, that grows to a height of about 20-30 metres. The tree is said to live for hundreds of years. The bark is silvery grey. The leaves are oblong and alternate. The flowers are green in colour. The fruit is a thick-shelled, wrinkled, glabrous nut. It grows in cold climate as well as in temperate zones.

MEDICINAL USE:
*Eliminates worms, checks the flow of milk and promotes the secretion of bile.
*Diabetes, tuberculosis, constipation, heartburn, indigestion or dyspepsia, stomachache and
  malnutrition.
*Scrofula of tuberculosis of the lymph glands of the neck, diarrhoea, dermatosis or skin disease,
  arthritis, gout, diabetes, syphilis, anaemia, cough and other respiratory problems.
*Haemorrhoid or piles, conjunctivitis, sores, boils and chilblain or sore caused by cold.
*Sore throat.
*Toothache, bleeding gums and loose teeth.
*Mouth wash, fever, intestinal worms, jaundice, irregular menses.
*Mild laxative, promotes the secretion of bile and eliminates worms.
*Skin diseases in general and especially for ringworms.

HOW TO USE:
*The consumption of walnuts help in eliminating worms from the system, checks the flow of milk in
  lactating mothers and promotes the secretion of bile.
*Walnut is recommended for diabetes, tuberculosis, constipation, heartburn, indigestion,
  stomachache and malnutrition.
*The infusion of the leaves is recommended for scrofula, general tuberculosis, diarrhoea, dermatosis,
  arthritis, gout, diabetes, stphilis, anaemia, cough and other respiratory problems. The dose is 20
  grams for 1 litre of water.
*Used externally, the decoction of the leaves in dose of 10 grams for 1 litre of water, is used as wash   for haemorrhoid, conjunctivitis, scrofula, sores, boils and chilblain.
*In gargles, it is a good remedy for sore throat.
*The bark of the root in decoction is used for toothache, bleeding gums and loose teeth.
*The above decoction is used as a mouthwash. when drunk, it is good for fever, intestinal worms,
  jaundice and irregular menses.
*The oil of the kernel acts as a mild laxative, promotes the secretion of bile and eliminates worms.
*As an ointment, it is recommended for skin diseases, especially ringworm.

PARTS USED:
*The bark, leaves, oil and nuts.

DOSE:
As recommended above.

Normal Dosage For:

Adults: 4 or 5 cups a day.
Aged 6 to 9 years: 2 cups a day
Aged 2 to 5 years: 1 cup a day
1 to 2 years: 1/2 cup a day
Below 1 year: 1/4 or less cup a day

A Useful Table for Quick Measurements:
1 tbsp = 5 grams (green herb)
1 dessertspoon = 2 grams (dry herb)
1 teaspoon = 25 drops
1 cup = 16 tbsp

1 litre = 7 or 8 cups
